Umbria elopement videographer: eloping in Italy, filmed
Just the two of you, with your witnesses or a few people you love: a quiet day among the Umbrian hills, told in the language of cinema.
At a glance
Yes, you can elope in Italy, and we have filmed elopements before. Marry legally at the comune with two witnesses or in a Catholic church, form a civil union, or marry at home and hold a symbolic ceremony in Umbria: we film it the same way, discreetly and unposed. Based in Perugia since 2011, we speak English and plan everything remotely.

Eloping in Umbria
What an elopement in Italy looks like
Eloping originally meant running away to marry in secret. Today an elopement is a wedding for just the two of you, or for a handful of people, often far from home: no long guest list, only you, your witnesses and a place you chose together. An intimate wedding, or micro wedding, is one step bigger: a few guests, the people closest to you, one table.
For a film, that changes a lot. Without a long schedule there is more time for the two of you: vows spoken quietly, a walk in the late-afternoon light, details that rush past at a big wedding. We build the hours of filming around your day.
Where
Your elopement videographer in Umbria
An elopement needs very little: a place that feels like yours, good light and time to take it in. In Umbria, hill towns, olive groves, vineyards and a lake are all within a short drive of each other. Perugia is our home. In the Palazzo dei Priori is the Sala dei Notari, where we filmed Arturo & Susanna’s ceremony; outside, the Fontana Maggiore and Piazza IV Novembre. For two people, a ceremony at the comune and a walk through the old town can be enough.
Assisi is a few miles away, with the Basilica of Saint Francis on the slopes of Mount Subasio and pink stone that glows at sunset. Lake Trasimeno has wooden piers and lakeside villages. If we don’t know your venue yet, we visit it beforehand.
Moments for two from our films
These are weddings with their guests, not elopements. But each has the minutes we spend with the couple alone, and at an elopement those minutes become the heart of the film.

Can you elope in Italy? The legal side
Civil ceremony. A legal marriage, performed by the civil registrar at the comune or at an authorised venue, with two witnesses. Each partner who is not Italian brings a nulla osta (a declaration of freedom to marry) or its equivalent: British citizens usually need a CNI from the British Embassy in Rome; US citizens swear a Dichiarazione giurata before a U.S. consular officer in Italy and add an Atto notorio. Public documents issued outside the EU are valid for six months, and you need an interpreter if you don’t speak Italian.
Religious ceremony. A Catholic church wedding also has civil effect: the priest registers it with the comune, so no separate civil ceremony is needed. For other faiths, check with your officiant and the comune.
Civil union. The route for same-sex couples under Italian law (Law 76/2016): no banns and two witnesses; in Perugia, the same venues as civil weddings.
Symbolic ceremony. No legal effect in Italy, so anyone you choose can lead it, wherever the venue allows. Many couples marry legally at home first.
From the UK. GOV.UK’s guide to marrying abroad helps you check whether you need a CNI and which documents to bring; the steps are in our guide, under UK citizens.
From the US. The U.S. Embassy lists every step, from the Dichiarazione giurata to the Atto notorio; the summary is in our guide, under US citizens.

Where you can marry legally in Perugia
These are four of the venues for civil weddings and civil unions on Perugia’s official «SpoSì a Perugia» list (full list on the City of Perugia website). On Lake Trasimeno, the rules published by the Comune of Castiglione del Lago also allow civil weddings in the ruined church in the inner garden of the Rocca.
