Why Umbria

Italy’s green heart, between Rome and Florence

Umbria has the rolling hills, medieval hill towns, olive groves and vineyards many people picture when they think of Tuscany, with a quieter, more intimate feel. Assisi, Perugia, Todi, Spello and Montefalco are all close to one another. Rome Fiumicino, the nearest major international airport, is about two and a half hours from Perugia by car, and Perugia’s own airport has mostly European flights.

We are based in Perugia and have been filming weddings since 2011, for Italian couples and for couples traveling from the United States, the United Kingdom and Switzerland. For most of the year Italy is six hours ahead of New York and nine ahead of Los Angeles, so we plan calls around your day, not ours.

Chosen by an American videographer

One of our American clients, a videographer himself, chose us after comparing American and European filmmakers for his wedding in Italy. He asked us to film his rehearsal dinner the evening before, and when the pandemic forced a new date, we worked with him every step of the way.

From the US to Castello di Rosciano

Andrea & Chloe’s wedding, on screen the same night

Andrea and Chloe traveled from the United States to marry at Castello di Rosciano, a medieval castle in the hills of Torgiano, on July 9, 2023. The ceremony was held on the lawn, looking out over the valley, with the castle’s stone halls and staircase as the backdrop for the rest of the day.

Their film is a same-day edit: we filmed and cut it during the wedding itself, and it was screened as a surprise for the couple and their guests at the party.

Your wedding weekend, start to finish

For American couples, a wedding in Italy is often a whole weekend with their guests: the rehearsal dinner or welcome party, the wedding day, a farewell brunch before everyone heads home. We can film each event and edit them into one film.

From getting ready to the last dance

We start with getting ready, with you and your bridal party, then film the ceremony, whether it’s civil, religious or symbolic, without ever getting in the way of your officiant or your guests. During cocktail hour we take the two of you away for a few minutes in the golden light over the hills. No posing, just the two of you.

Then dinner and the toasts, the cake cutting and the first dance. Our coverage usually runs until the evening celebrations, and other timings are available on request. We share the timeline with your planner, photographer and other vendors well ahead of the day, so everyone knows where to be.

The legal side

Legal at home, symbolic in Italy, or the other way around

Many American couples take care of the legal part at home first, then celebrate in Umbria with a symbolic ceremony led by an officiant, a celebrant or a close friend. A symbolic ceremony has no legal effect in Italy, so it can be held wherever you like: in a garden, a castle courtyard or among the vines. Planning it for just the two of you? If you’d rather marry legally in Italy, U.S. citizens generally need an Atto Notorio, obtained from an Italian consulate in the United States, and a Dichiarazione Giurata, sworn before a U.S. consular officer in Italy and then authenticated at the Prefettura, followed by a declaration at the town hall.
