Getting married on Lake Trasimeno

A lake among the hills, next door to Tuscany

Lake Trasimeno is the largest lake in central Italy: a wide, shallow stretch of water ringed by olive-covered hills, with three islands and a string of villages along its shores. The western shore is a few miles from Tuscany; the eastern shore looks toward the hills of Perugia.

For a wedding film it is a rare kind of set: an open horizon, the sky mirrored in the water, wooden piers reaching out into the lake. From a drone the whole lake opens up, with the houses of each village pressed along the waterfront.

Emanuele & Elena, on Lake Trasimeno

A record on the turntable, getting ready with friends, the ceremony in a richly decorated church. Then the pier on the lake at sunset, with the water and the hills on the horizon, and the party in the garden with live music late into the night.

The teaser opens over the lake, with Passignano and its houses by the water, then steps into a celebration full of colour: traditional gowns embroidered in gold, henna on the bride’s hands, drums, and the bride lifted high by her guests on a litter.

Around the lake

The villages of Lake Trasimeno

Passignano sul Trasimeno, on the northern shore, packs its houses between the old fortress and the lakefront, where the ferries leave for the islands. This is where we filmed Doaa & Matteo’s wedding, at La Villa di Passignano.

Castiglione del Lago, on the western shore, sits on a promontory reaching into the water, with the Rocca del Leone fortress and Palazzo della Corgna. Tuoro sul Trasimeno, also on the northern shore, is where Hannibal defeated the Romans at the Battle of Lake Trasimene, and from its lakefront a ferry takes you to Isola Maggiore, the only one of the three islands with a small inhabited village.

Between the villages, villas, farmhouses and agriturismi look down on the lake from the hills. If we don’t know your venue yet, we visit it before the wedding to study the light, the spaces and the flow of the day.

Light on the lake, season by season

On Lake Trasimeno the light comes twice: from the sky and from its reflection on the water. In the late afternoon the lake turns silver, then gold; that is the hour of the pier in Emanuele & Elena’s film, and whenever we can we plan the day so we have a few minutes with you by the water at exactly that moment.

In spring the surrounding hills are green and the days grow longer; in summer the sun sets late and the party can stay outdoors into the evening; in autumn the colours warm up and a light mist can rise over the water in the morning. We plan the outdoor filming around the season and the time of your wedding.
