Gianni & Sophie’s film
The wedding trailer of Gianni & Sophie at Castello di Rosciano, Torgiano, Umbria.
Their day
Gianni and Sophie were married at Castello di Rosciano, in Torgiano. The film shows the castle from above, among the woods, then the day up close: the lawn set for the ceremony with a view over the hills, the bride’s entrance among the guests, the embraces on the lawn, the signing.
It opens on the towers seen by drone, their names on screen. Then getting ready, at an easy pace: the bride in a white robe and her friends in floral ones open a bottle between white curtains and stone walls; in the groom’s room, a small locket holding a photograph is pinned inside his jacket. Outside, a group of friends jump into the castle pool, and in the courtyard the long tables are laid.
The ceremony takes place on a lawn edged by a dry-stone wall, with a white aisle between the chairs and the hills beyond. The bride is walked in beneath a white pergola; a violinist plays beside the couple’s table and there is a reading at the microphone. Then the signing among white flowers, and the walk back down the aisle through a shower of petals, guests holding up their phones.
In the evening the castle courtyard lights up: fountains of light, streamers, the party seen from above, an embrace against the stone walls. A day full of people, music and emotion, told just as it happened.
From the set
Sunset over the valley, then night in the courtyard
The quietest moment in the film comes as the sun goes down over the valley. Gianni and Sophie are alone on the terrace, between brick pillars and an iron railing: close together, laughing, she turns towards the light. In another shot, the bride’s silhouette stands out against an orange sky beneath a string of bulbs; and the last image is of the two of them walking hand in hand down a stone lane lined with plants and flowers.
By day there are toasts with white wine in front of the hills; after sunset the castle takes on another character. The drone looks straight down into the courtyard: strings of lights radiate from the centre like spokes, and the long and round tables frame the dance floor. The couple dance inside a ring of guests, between fountains of light; then come the speeches by the stone wall, read from a sheet of paper, the dance floor washed in purple and the groom thrown into the air by his friends beneath the lights.

The venue
Castello di Rosciano, from above and up close
From the drone the castle is seen whole: towers and stone walls, the pool on its terrace, the woods and olive groves around it in the hills of Torgiano, with a hilltop village in the distance. Up close, the film moves through its spaces: the ceremony lawn, the terrace looking over the valley, the stone staircase with its lanterns, the courtyard for dinner and dancing.
Across the film, the light moves from full daylight to the warmth of sunset and then to strings of bulbs among the stones, a range that matters in a wedding film. The same castle, in a different light and with a different party, appears in Cathrin & Philip’s film.
