Their day
Cathrin and Philip chose Castello di Rosciano, in the hills of Torgiano, for their wedding. The film opens from above, over the castle surrounded by woods and olive groves, then moves within its stone walls: the avenue, the courtyard, the terrace looking out over the valley.
The film has a warm, soft palette, with the look of analogue film. Getting ready already feels like a party: on the lawn, beside arrangements of peach, pink and orange roses, wicker baskets are full of lemons and oranges; indoors, the bride’s friends in terracotta satin pyjamas raise their glasses and laugh with her beside a large silver mirror. Philip straightens his bow tie against an ivy-covered stone wall, sunglasses on. Down at the pool, one guest relaxes in the water under a straw hat while another jumps in with a great splash.
The ceremony is held outdoors, with the hills and a hilltop village behind: vows read into the microphone, glances between them, guests all around. Then everyone together at the long table for a group photo, the cake cutting between fountains of light and the evening toasts beneath strings of lights.
As the couple arrive at the tables, guests wave white napkins above the long tables, laid with colourful flowers, fruit and peach-coloured candles. After dark come cardboard faces held up by friends, speeches at the microphone, and the groom’s bow tie, by now untied, against his white shirt.

Moments for two, among the castle stones
Between one celebration and the next, the film finds the moments when Cathrin and Philip are alone. She is walked along the tree-lined avenue between the walls and meets him at the foot of a stone staircase, holding a bouquet of orange, red and blue flowers. During the ceremony Philip reads his vows from a small booklet; Cathrin raises a hand to her face, then they kiss.
In another scene they stand against a stone wall, looking at each other and laughing; at sunset he leads her by the hand across the terrace as the hills fade into the light. They come down the stone steps together, her bouquet held high above her head, and the film closes on a kiss beneath the trees.

From the drone it sits tucked among woods and olive groves on the Torgiano hills.
In the evening, among low stone walls and greenery, come the cake and the speeches, with the lights of the valley in the distance. The castle features again in Gianni & Sophie’s film, with a celebration all its own.
