Set in the quiet Umbrian countryside, among woods, olive groves and vineyards, Tenuta di San Masseo has a view few places can match: the Basilica of Saint Francis across the valley. For a film, that’s a gift – every outdoor shot comes with its own backdrop.
The gardens host the ceremony and drinks, the indoor rooms the reception, and at sunset the light falling over the valley turns Assisi into a painting.

How we have filmed the estate
We have filmed two weddings at Tenuta di San Masseo, a week apart: James and Stacey on 3 June 2023, Giulia and Alessandro on 10 June. In both films Assisi is always there, across the valley.
Getting ready means toasts with the bridesmaids and running through the garden among the cypresses, with the town in the background. Then the gardens fill up: James and Stacey’s kiss among their friends, embraces with the guests at the reception, the cake cutting outdoors in the evening for Giulia and Alessandro.
Giulia and Alessandro were married in Assisi and celebrated at the estate: their film also shows the town, with the veil lifting in the wind in front of the basilica. And when darkness falls the Basilica of St Francis lights up: for a film, it is the perfect closing shot.
Before the wedding
Light, timing and venue visit
At the estate the best light comes in the late afternoon, when the sun sinks over the valley and the pink stone of Assisi warms up. In high summer it is worth moving the ceremony towards that hour; whenever we can, we plan the day so we have a few minutes with you in the gardens, with the basilica behind you.
The estate lies in the hills of Assisi, a short drive from Perugia and from our studio in Ponte San Giovanni: we plan timings, transfers between church and reception, photographer and planner together with you before the wedding.
