Their day
Tyler and Jaime were married at La Torre di Celle, the medieval stone tower overlooking the hills of Monte Santa Maria Tiberina, in the upper Tiber Valley. The film opens from above, over the woods and the valley, then comes down to the tower and the farmhouse where the guests gather in the afternoon sun.
The ceremony takes place outdoors, beneath an arch of fabric and flowers looking out over the valley. Then the long table on the terrace under strings of lights, with the mountains on the horizon, the toasts, and a party that carries on into the evening, the bride dancing in the farmhouse doorway with friends all around.
Before the ceremony, getting ready in rooms of stone and brick: the groom straightens his collar in the light from a window while someone pins on his buttonhole; the bride, in an off-the-shoulder gown with a bouquet of white roses, smiles from a doorway. On a table, the details of the day are laid out: shoes with jewelled straps, the rings in their box, and two small books for the vows.

Vows above the valley
The ceremony terrace looks out over the upper Tiber Valley: the wooden arch hung with white drapes and greenery, an old olive tree alongside, an iron railing and hills fading into the distance. The celebrant, in a pale suit, stands between the couple; the seated guests are seen from behind, and the camera turns to them for a burst of laughter or applause.
The vows are read from those little books, one at a time, and the film tells them through a close-up of whoever is speaking and a reverse shot of whoever is listening. The groom arrives with a man on one arm and a woman on the other; beneath the arch, the bride wears a long veil. Later, against the sunset, she kisses his cheek, one hand on his face and her ring on her finger.

The light
From afternoon sun to evening lights
At La Torre di Celle the film follows the light as it changes. In the afternoon the sun falls on the courtyard, on the pool with its green parasols and on the stones of the tower; guests raise their glasses in front of the farmhouse and a few dance into the low sun, out of focus, as it sinks behind the mountains. Then the drone climbs above the olive groves and shows the tower small in the landscape, under an orange sky.
At blue hour the scene moves to the long table beneath the strings of lights: speeches, applause, laughter. For the party the bride wears a short white dress with a feathered hem; she dances with friends against the stone wall and with the groom under the lights, right up to the final shot.
