Their day
Luigi and Christina were married at Castello di Petrata, in the hills around Assisi: old stone, ivy on the walls and green all around. The film moves between the quiet moments of getting ready, the dress hanging by the window, the rings resting on a large golden eye, and the energy of a day full of friends.
It opens among the lights, on a saxophone in silhouette; then a speech: a guest in a pale jacket speaks into the microphone against a backdrop of fairy lights, and from there the story moves back and forth through the day. In the bride’s room the lace dress waits by the window; then, silhouetted against white curtains, someone settles her veil. Luigi adjusts his jacket beside a wooden door. The rings sit in their box on a mother-of-pearl panel, next to an eye picked out in gold and violet sequins.
The ceremony is held outdoors beneath a great arch of flowers, with the bride reading her vows; then the embraces, dinner in a bright room among lamps and hanging lights, friends’ speeches and laughter at the table. To close, the cake cutting between fountains of light and dancing beneath a huge disc of light bulbs.
In between there is always music: a saxophone playing among the lights, a tambourine keeping time, a dance floor full of raised hands beneath curtains of bulbs. And outside, on the paving in front of the castle, a group of guests dances and claps with the bride.

Vows among the olive trees, speeches among the lights
The ceremony is held on a lawn among olive trees, with mountains in the background. The arch is dense with fuchsia, violet and peach flowers; the bridesmaids, in sage-green dresses, hold bouquets of pale roses. Christina reads her vows from a card and Luigi reads his from a small booklet, friends standing beside them, smiling; after the kiss come the embraces among the standing guests.
Dinner is in a room with a glass wall onto the garden: curtains of fairy lights, lamps with white shades, candles in glass cylinders. The couple wave to the room, then the speeches follow one another, read from a sheet of paper or a phone, and the film cuts between them and the faces of those listening: the couple laughing, friends raising glasses and applauding. For the cake, between two tall columns of flowers in the garden, Luigi raises a fist as the guests take photos.

The venue
Castello di Petrata, Assisi
Castello di Petrata stands in the hills around Assisi: an ivy-covered stone façade, a pergola, lavender in the garden. From the drone it sits deep in greenery, with lights strung over the garden and a pool among the trees. In the film the lawn where they exchange vows looks out to the mountains; the evening moves between the glass-walled room and the garden, and the dance floor lights up beneath a great rosette of bulbs.
Assisi is also the setting of Iago & Benedetta’s film, with their kiss in the lower square of the Basilica of Saint Francis.
