In Perugia, besides the city\u2019s own halls, civil weddings can take place in a number of historic venues that take part in the city\u2019s <strong>\u00abSpoS\u00ec a Perugia \u2013 Wedding in Perugia\u00bb<\/strong> project, among them Villa Montefreddo di Bagnaia and Borgo Colognola. The current list is on the City of Perugia website.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Religious ceremony.<\/strong> A Catholic wedding can also have civil effect when it is registered with the civil authorities (Italian Civil Code, art. 82). The Church has its own requirements and timings: speak to the parish and the diocese well in advance.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Symbolic ceremony.<\/strong> A symbolic ceremony can take place in a garden, a castle courtyard or a vineyard, but it is not a legal marriage in Italy. It is issued by the embassy or consulate of their own country in Italy. The City of Perugia specifies that it must show full name, place and date of birth, parents\u2019 names, residence, citizenship and marital status.<\/p>\n<p>The signature on the nulla osta must be <strong>authenticated at the competent Prefettura<\/strong> (<em>legalizzazione<\/em>), unless the country is party to the London Convention of 7 June 1968. Citizens of countries party to the Munich Convention of 5 September 1980 may present a <em>certificate of capacity to marry<\/em> instead, together with a birth certificate showing parents\u2019 names. Popular months such as May, June and September book up early at many town halls, so contact the comune well ahead.
